The inscription apparently was copied from an earlier stone inscription. • Immediately above this inscription is another, short inscription in the Kanarese alphabet and language, recording that the image below which it is engraved was founded by the Jains preceptor) A japandi, (Aryanandin); we Ep. Ind. Vol. IV. p. 141, and Plate. The same personage (named Ajjanandi, the pupil of Balachandra) is mentioned in another Kanarese inscription, ibid. p. 142, and Plate facing p. 140. . See Ind. Ant.
