Among the Northern Texts, Mandana seems certainly to have utilised the Visnudharmottaram18, in the first instance. This is, traditionally, said to be a part of the Garuda-Puranammore properly the uttara-bhaga of the Garuḍa-Puranam1o. According to another opinion20, VP. belongs to the second part of the Visnu-Purānam.
"The Visnudharmottara is occasionally given out as a part of a Purana, namely the Garuda-Purana, but generally it is counted an independent Upa-Purana. It is repeatedly quoted by Alberuni as the 'Visnudharma'. It is a Kashmiri Vaiṣṇava book of encyclopoædic character in three sections. Section I deals with the usual themes of the Puranas Section II deals with law and politics, as well as with medicine, the science of war, astronomy and astrology. There is in it a prose section...
