________________ ARDHAMĀGADHI GRAMMAR 35. Ab. साहु, m. a monk Singular Plural साहू साहू, साहवो, साहुणो साहु साहवो साहुं साहू, साहवो, साहुणो साहुणा साहूहि साहूहिं साहूओ, साहुणो साहहिंतो साहुस्स, साहुणो साहूण, साहणं साहुसि साहूसु, साइसुं 61.. Neuter nouns differ from the declension of masculine nouns only in Nom. and Acc. Elsewhere they are declined like masculine nouns of similar ending. 62. Neuter nouns ending in अ, e.g. वण, are declined as under: वण, n. a forest Singular Plural __N. A. वणं .. वणाई, वणाणि 63. There are a few masculine and neuter nouns such as धम्म (धर्म m.), कम्म (कर्मन् n.), मण (मनस् ॥.), वय (वचस् ।.), काय ( काय m. ) which present a few irregular forms based on false analogy. Thus H and post have their Instr. singular as धम्मुणा and कम्मुणा along with धम्मेण, धम्मेणं, कम्मेण, कम्मेणं. मण has मणो in the Nom. and Acc. singular and Fural in the Instr. sing. along with Hot and मणेणं. Similarly, वय also has in Nom. and Acc. sing. वओ and in Instr. वयसा, along with वयं and वएणं. काय is a word which is frequently used in company with the above words and hence has in Instr. sing. Prerat along with काएणं. In fact all neuter words which in Sanskrit end in स, have their Nom., Acc. and Instr. sing. forms borrowed from Sanskrit. Thus we have तवो, तवं, तवसा, तवेणं; . बसो, जसं, जससा, जसेणं. तेओ, तेयं ; तेयसा, तेएणं etc.
