10. DVAIPAYANA DESTROYED
DVARAKĀ
The words of a Jina can never be wrong. The following story proves this:
Once Krsna asked Aristanemi, the famous Jain monk, about his favourite city of Dvārakā and its prospects. Aristanemi said that its life was only twelve years and Dvaipāyana was destined to be its destroyer. However, when Dvaipayana came to know of this prophecy, he was far away in Uddyotatarā. He did not want the city to be destroyed at all much less by himself, and therefore to escape the cursed prophecy, he went far in the north and spent there as much of his time as he could. He thought the twelve years of the prediction were already gone and he turned back south. He came to Dvāraka and by a strange coincidence it was just the twelfth year of the prophecy. The Yādava boys of Dvărakā very much annoyed Dvaipāyana and once he lost his patience with them. In his anger he reduced the whole city to ashes.
