Mahavira was great in his own right He was known by a number of names signifying innate and cultivated virtues The seven names based on his singular virtues are Vardhman, Saman (Shramana), Mahavira,1 Sanmatı, Vira, Ativira and Gyataputra Buddhistic scriptures name him as Nataputra Mahavira's father bore three names Siddhartha, Shreyansa and Yashasvi Kasyapa was his gotra (patronymic) Mahavira's mother bore three names Trishala, Videhadutta and Priyakarını Vasistha was her gotra (patronymic)
