________________ SHAANT SUDHAARAS PAGE NO. 74 अनशनमूनोदरतां वृत्ति-ह्रासं रसपरिहारम् । भज! सांलीन्यं कायक्लेशम्, तप इति बाह्यमुदारम् ||४|| विभा० 9.2.5 Anshan (complete abstinence from food). Unodari ( eating less than our hunger), Vrutti-sankshep (limiting number of food items), Ras-tyag (refraining from tasty food items), Sanleenta (Controlling senses) and Kayaklesh (bodily endurance) are the 6 types of external austerities. प्रायश्चित्तं वैयावृत्यं, स्वाध्यायं विनयं च । कायोत्सर्गं शुभध्यानं आभ्यन्तरमिदमं च || ५ || विभा० 9.2.6 Prayaschit (confession of Sins), Vinay (humility), Vaiyavachch (serving others), Svadhyay (spiritual study), Kayotsarg (Chanting in a fixed posture) & Dhyan (meditation) are the 6 types of internal austerities. शमयति तापं गमयति पापं, रमयति मानसहंसम् । हरति विमोहं दूरारोहं, तप इति विगताशंसम् ||६|| 9.2.7 Through austerities, the fire of grief extinguishes and our sins vanish. Our minds becomes joyful & overcome attachments. The only clause is that the austerity should be practised without any selfish motives. संयमकमलाकार्मणमुज्ज्वल- शिवसुखसत्यङ्कारम् । चिन्तितचिन्तामणिमाराधय तप इह वारंवारम् ||७|| विभा० 9.2.8 Austerities help beings to stay sober & promise them pure happiness of moksh.
