________________ શ્રી જૈન' વે. કેા. રલ્ડ. 3. MILL. "That celebrated family, the "Seths of Murshidabad who, by marchandise and banking, had acquired the wealth of princes, and often aided him (Nawal Aliverdi) in his trials were admitted largely to share in his councils aud to influence the operations of his Government. Ali Verdi had recommended the same policy to Siraj-Uddowlah and that prince had met with no temptation to depart from it. "Vol 11 ch. V. C. 160 (no 3 Vol.) (To be continued.) છ "" REPERTORY OF JAIN BIBLIOGRAPHY. (Continued from Page of last year's Herald) KADAMBAS OF BANAVASI. It is not unreasonable to accept as Mr. Fleet does (Journal Bom. Br. vol IX p. 229 249.) that the Kadambas of Vaija. yanti or Banavasi were followers of Jainism. They make in fact numerous gifts to the different Jain sects. But the inscriptions, whenever. they bear dates, are not dated according to the years of each reign and do not therefore bear any new elements for the the general chronology of India. Among the oldest representatives of this dynasty which Mr. Fleet places in the second half of the fifth century after Christ (Ind. Ant. vol VI. p. 22-23) we find: Kakusthavarman: the 80th year (of his reign?) a gift to Cruta Kirti (no 96). Mrgecavarman son of Cantivarman and grandson of Kakusthavarman; the 3rd year, of his reign, gift (no 97);-the fourth year, another gift to the cvetapatas and to the Nirgranthas (no. 98);-the 8th year, foundation of a temple at Pelacika and new gifts to the Nirgranthas as well as to the Kurcakas and to the Yapaniyas (vo 99). Raviwarman, son of Mrgecavarman; gifts and the promul gation of an edict in fovor of the Yapaniyas. (no 100);— another gift (no 101);-during the 11th year of his reign, his brother Bhanuvarman makes a new gift (no 102).
