Temple timings are as follows Monday-Saturday 9:30AM - 12:30PM (Darshan & Puja) 5:30PM - 8PM (Darshan & Aarti) Sunday 8:30AM - 1PM (Darshan & Puja) 5:30PM - 8PM (Darshan & Aarti) Toronto, ONT 5th Anniversary Celebrations. The winter blues of 1998 and heaviest snowfall of this century did not dampen the spirits of our members to plan 25th anniversary of the founding of oldest Jain Society on the continent of North America. Under the chairmanship of Shan Jain, a committee of 10 members was convened and the pelimnary work has been completed. The dates for the celebrations are May 21, 22 & 23 and everyone is welcome. There will be exhibitions and displays on various activities of Jain Society of Toronto as well as past, present and future ideas of the Society's achievements. The young Jains are planning interesting cultural & religious activities. There will be talks, discussions, workshops, souvenir and of course good food. All our sadharmic brethren from south of the border are most welcome to these celebrations. Jain Studies at University of Toronto. The University of Toronto is offering a new credit course on Jain and Hindu ethics. The topics will include dharma, karma and the interrelationships between Jain and Hindu ethics. This endeavor is supported financially in part by a Toronto Jain family. Those interested should call Prof. Joseph O'Connell at 416/926-1300. Rotary Club of Toronto. The Rotary Clubs of Toronto and Pune and the Rotary Club International have donated US $125,000 towards the Sadhna Village Center for upgrading facilities and make it self sufficient. Mr. Keshav Chandaria was instrumental in making it possible. Prayers for Mr. Ashok Jain. Prayers and shantipath were recited at Jain Center on Sunday 7 Feb.99 in the memory of Mr. Ashok Jain, a media baron in India, philanthropist and leader of Digambar Jains. Ramesh Jain and Manharbhai Shah gave brief outline of Ashok Jain's life and achievements. Official Recognition: The Premier of Ontario, Mike Harris sent a letter recognizing Prakash Mody for his efforts as a volunteer member of the Ontario Multifaith Council on Spiritual and Religious Care. Our Society is proud of members who work with mainstream Canadians to bring awareness of our Jain heritage. Aarti and Mangal Divo are performed every morning at 11:45 am and in evening at 7:45pm. Snatra-Puja is performed every Sunday from 11:00 am to 12:30pm. We are fortunate to have two Pujari to accomplish our day to day temple tasks. The center celebrated Meru Teras day (Rishabhdev Nirvan Kalyanak) on Jan. 16,1999. Panch-Kalyanak puja was performed on that day followed by Swami Vatsalya. On March 27, 1999 , Navanu Prakar Puja was performed. There was lot of enthusiasm and greater participation on both these occasions. Study classes (Pathshala) are conducted once a month. Proposal was made and accepted by majority of members to conduct study classes twice a month. There are now more than 200 students registered for the classes. Future events: Mahavir Jayanti will be celebrated on March 27, 1999. The annual fund raising dinner will be held in last week of April 1999. Jain Society of Greater Detroit would like to invite all Jain Sangh to new Temple for Pilgrimage.
