રા ભૂલોમાંની ઘણીખરી વિદ્વજનેને સ્વયંપ્રકાશ લાગે અને તેથી રા. કમળાશંકરભાઈએ ઉઠાવેલો શ્રમ નિરર્થક જણાય; પરંતુ વિદ્વાન કરતાં અર્ધ શિક્ષિત લેખકજ વ્યકીર્તિ વગેરે વિવિધ લાલસાએથી પ્રેરાઈ ગુજરાતી ભાષાનાં પુસ્તકોમાં દિન પર દિન ઉમેરે કરતા આવે છે અને ગુજરાતી ભાષામાં કેટલાક દુષ્ટ પ્રયોગને રૂઢ બનાવતા જાય છે એ જોતાં રા. કમળાશંકરભાઈનું ભાષણ આપણી ભાષાને બહુ ઉપયોગી સેવા બજાવશે એમ અમને લાગે છે.
આરંભમાં તેઓ દોષનું લક્ષણ આપવા જતાં પ્રસંગોપાત “લક્ષણ શબ્દના પ્રયુગ વિષે કેટલુંક બોલ્યા અને શાળોપયોગી પુસ્તકમાં લક્ષણને બદલે “વ્યાખ્યા’ શબ્દ પ્રયોજાય છે તે સામે ટીકા કરી. રા. કમળાશંકરભાઈ માટે પૂર્ણ માન સાથે અમારે એટલું કહેવું જોઈએ કે આપણા વડીલ ગુજરાતી લેખકે એ Definition માટે “વ્યાખ્યા’ શબ્દ કેવળ અકારણ યોજ્યો નહ. અત્રત્ય નૈયાયિકોનો “લક્ષણ’–શબ્દ અને અંગ્રેજી Definition-Logical definition-તે સર્વથા સામાનાર્થક નથી. મિલ પરિપૂર્ણ સન્તોષકારક Definition માં એક નહિ, પણ એ શબ્દના અર્થમાં સમાતા બધા અસાધારણ ધર્મોનું પ્રકટીકરણ આવશ્યક માને છે; અને સંસ્કૃત તૈયાયિકાનાં “લક્ષણ” માં તો એકજ અસાધારણ ધર્મ આવે તે બસ એટલું જ નહિ પણ જોઈએ તે કરતાં અધિક વ્યાવર્તક-ભેદક ધર્મો હોય તે તેટલો અંશ પદકૃત્ય વિચારમાં નિપ્રયોજન ગણાઈ આક્ષેપને પાત્ર થાય છે. આ કારણથી પ્રાચીનએ “વ્યાખ્યા' શબ્દ વાપર્યો હોય તે આશ્રય નહિ. જ
