All these varieties and sub-varieties are elucidated by Abhayadeva Suri in his commentary (pp. 211a-212a) on this Thana." Haribhadra Suri in his Samaraïccacariya ( bhava 1, p. 13) divides narratives into the following four groups: -

Uddyotana Suri alias Dākṣinyacihna Suri mentions in his Kuvalayamala (99) three varieties of narratives viz. I, and four sub varieties of dharmmakaba as noted in Thana (s. 282). In § 7 he however mentions five varieties of narratives as below:

सलका (सकलकथा), खण्डकहा ( खण्डकथा ), उल्लावकहा (उल्लापकथा ), परिहासका (परिहासकथा ) & वराकडा ( वराकथा ).
This Suri has here (87) mentioned sankiņņakahā', too.
Siddharşi points out the following classification of narratives in his Upamitibhavaprapañcākathā (prastāva I; p. 2):— ( अर्थकथा, कामकथा, धर्मकथा & सङ्कीर्णकथा.

Hemacandra Suri in his Kävyänusasana (VIII, 8) has defined "katha". Khaṇḍakatha and sakalakatha are mentioned by him in his Alankaracudamani while commenting upon this Kavyanusasana (VIII, 8). Here he has referred to Indumati as khanḍakatha and to Samaradityakatha (Samaraïccacariya) as sakalakatha '.
It is desirable that narratives dealt with in all the three parts of Section II of Vol. XIX should be classified by taking into account their forms of presentation. Consequently I group these
