________________ viii The Alaņkāra Raghavam-Vol. 2 which is published first before the first volume for technical reasons, enumerates 6 sabdalaṁkāras and 78 arthālankāras. In these two volumes of Alaņkāra Rāghavam the author, instead of presenting a mere epitome of the fundamental doctrines of Alaǹkāraśstāra, reviews the opinions of other rhetoricians popular by his time. Of course, Yajñeśvara Dixita is influenced by Bharata, Bhāmaha, Daṇḍin, Rudrata, Vāmana, Anandavardhana, Mammața, Ruyyaka and other famous works on Alankaraśāstra. Still, he does not blindly admit the view of others. He also quotes from Rasārṇavasudhakara of Śingabhūçāla and Sahityacintamani of Viranārāyaṇa. Another notworthy point that draws our attention is that the illustrative verses appearing as examples in the whole work are his own compositions. They glorify the ideals and adventures of the epic hero Śrīrāma. The other works of Yajñeśvara Dixita are Alankarasuryodaya: Alaṁkāraratnākara, Kāvyaprakāśa-tika. This versatile writer has also composed 'Sastracūḍāmaṇi', which is a critique on Tattvacintamani of Gangeśopadhyāya. But, unfortunately the works of Yajñeśvara-Dixita remained unpublished for a long time. Due to tireless efforts of Dr. T. V. Satyanarayana, this precious work on Alankaraśāstra is able to reach the lovers of literature.
