________________ Shri Mahavir Jain Aradhana Kendra www.kobatirth.org Acharya Shri Kailassagarsuri Gyanmandir [v ] A study of the Vyomavati also confirms the above eulogies in regard to the versatile scholarship of Vyomasiva. He refers to his Guru more than once (p. 20, 1. 14, p.108, 1.6, p 55, 1.10 p. 143, 1.26). The inscription also says that HỊdayeśa is his Guru and he, being a versatile scholar, is described as Farofatfase n fa. As stated in this inscription, Avanti invited Purandara, an ascetic residing in Kadambaguhā to establish two mathas, one in viattamayūrapura and the other in Ranipadra. The genealogical table shown there is as follows: 1. Kadambaguhādhivāsin 2. Terambipāla (the Chief of Saňkhamathikā) 3. Amardakatirthanatha 4. Purandara Guru whom Avanti invited to establish two mathas in his state) 5. Sadāśiva (disciple of Purandara) 6. HỊdayeśa (disciple of Sadāśiva and Guru of Vyoma Siva ) If this Avanti is held to be identical with the Maukhari King of the same name, he was the son and successor of Tšānavarman. Avanti's accession to the throne took place about 565 A.D. As Vyomasiva was the fifth in succession to Purandara, most probably a senior contemporary of Avanti, he may be placed 60-80 years after the establishment of the mathas by Purandara, which may be roughly taken as 625-640 A.D. The confirmation of the above date of Vyomasiva is also possible in the light of other data. For Private And Personal Use Only
