A man is saved if he has a long life, even though he might have fallen into crores of pits resembling the mouth of the god of death having sharp teeth.. 71. Evils, following one after the other, turn out as good things in the case of one whose side is supported by the god of death who keeps with him both happiness and misery? (11. 42-43) 140 ७२ यसमा नत्थि जरा दारिसमो पराभवो नत्थि । मरणसम' मंत्थि भय > 72. There is no old age worse than a long way: no humiliation worse than death; and no pain worse than hunger. (1.5. 28) ७१ रूषेण किं गुणवराम वज्जिएण, अत्थेण किं किविणहत्थगएण लोए । नाणेण किं बहुजणाणुवगारएण, मित्रेण किं वसणकज्जपर मुद्देण ? ।। (१६.२१८ ) 73. Of what use is that beauty which is not accompanied with merits and valour? What is the good in (this) world of that wealth which is in the hands of a miser? Of what advantage is that knowledge which does not do any benefit to many people? And what is the meaning of having such a friend as is averse to duty at the time of adversity? (16. 218). अपुण्णया (Ill Luck ) ७४ aoes जत्थ अपुन्नो, अडविं दरि गुह समुद्द बा । पावह तर्हि सहि सो, पुन्नेर्हि विणा परिकिले ॥ (४.७६) 74. An unlucky person meets with trouble, due to lack of luck, wherevr he goes either to the forest, or to the den or to the cave or to the sea. आसाबंध (Hope's Bondage ) (4.76). हासमा वेयणा नत्थि ।। ( १५.२८) ७५ Jain Education International 75. It is onlyt he Hope's bondage that sustains the life of a man who has gone to a distant country and hankers after the union with his own dear and near. (4. 28). कम्म (Aation) दूर देखपरिटियस्स संग पियसंग महंतस्थ आसाबंधो च्चिय माणुसस्स परिक्खए जीय' ।। (४.२८) ७६ पुण्यकयक्रम्म एण में जस्स किंपि उक्किस्थि , निवसनिडाने दुक्ख छह व रोग भोतम् ॥ ( ८.६७) 76. Whatever misery or happiness is writ on (the plank of) one's forehead with a pen in the form of deeds done in the past, is, indeed, to be experienced by him (867). गुणसुट्टिय-गुणहीण (Virtuous & Vicious) ७७ गुणवुडियस वयण मनुषयसितो व पाक्सो भाई , गुणहीणस्सन सोहर, नेहविहुणो जह पईचो ।। (२.२२) 77. The words of a virtuous person are like rice-pudding mixed with honey and ghee while those of a vicious person are like a lamp without oil.
