produced in this century lay in its antagonism to epicurianism. Weariness was its predominent note. This was later removed by Dayarām (1767), a genuine poet whose wings were unclipped by convention and who roared high in search of real art and emotion. His genius was lyrical and found a suitable vehicle in the garabis in which he has so arranged his words that sense and sound and meaning blended in harmony to express one brief experience with perfect art. With him practically comes to a close the period of Old Gujarati.
