SUTRA 10 ACYHIŪT II 90 11 Tatpramane (10) All five channels of knowledge operate with Total Perception - prainana. (10) All knowledge we perceive through our senses, from external sources, through clairvoyance and telepathy, direct mental perception and omniscience, is Total Perception - pramana. This statement sounds almost redundantly simple, yet it has far reaching consequences. It basically says that knowledge is only WHAT WE PERCEIVE OF IT IN THE PRESENT. It says that knowledge is only what we are able to access AT A PARTICULAR MOMENT IN TIME. It means that no matter how hard we try to memorize one particular information or train a certain reaction, if this information or reaction is not present at the very moment we need it, it is not knowledge. No matter how well we learnt or how often we practiced it, if it is blocked from our consciousness when we want to access it, it might as well not exist at all.35 35 We all experienced this e.g. at the time of exams, when to our horror knowledge we studied for months or even years suddenly is blanked from our consciousness. This indicates that our concept of knowledge and learning is flawed. It drastically demonstrates that mere ming data into our memory does not produce knowledge. It shows that all we want to really learn we need to integrate into our consciousness by comprehending it.
