________________ FOREWORD It is with great pleasure that I accepted the kind invitation of the learned author of this book to write a foreword. This book was first published in 1947. That it should have passed to the second edition in the course of three years is itself a tribute to the learned author and an incontestable testimony to its wide appeal. We are living in an age in which religion has lost its hold on the human mind. With the rapid advance of Science and Technology, Faith has been displaced by what is styled Reason which is in fact identified with the intellect. It is taken for granted that the law of Cause and Effect: which unmistakeably operates in the material world operates as universally and effectively in the sphere of the mind on the theory that mind is the product of organised matter.
