On being questioned about the incident, the omniscient nun narrated the story of her past life.
How was it that on the day Agnisharma was to break his fast, Gunasen developed an unbearable headache? And again, a second time, on the very day of breaking of Agnisharma's fast – not a day earlier, not a day later - suddenly, a war was on the verge of breaking out. Gunasen had missed out on making the great austerite Agnisharma break his fast of ‘masakshamana' twice. Agnisharma's unbroken third ‘masakshamana' had begun, because of which Gunasen's devotion and respect for him had multiplied manifold. He was deeply repentant for having missed out on ‘paranu' twice and hence had become extra vigilant about not missing it the third time. He was not only keen to perform the ‘parana', he also had an intense desire to reap its benefit. The countdown had begun.
