भरह. पुं० ( भरत ) भारतवर्ष - भरतक्षेत्र; ते अर्ध दमाने मारे छे. ત્રણ બાજુ લવણ સમુદ્ર અને ઉત્તરમાં ચુન્નહિમવંત પર્વત છે; એટલે લવણ સમુદ્ર અને ચુહિમવંત પર્વતથી તેની હૃદ બંધાય છે. ભરતના વચ્ચમાં વતાય પર્વત છે, તેથી તેના બે ભાગ પડે છે, વૈતાઢયની દક્ષિણૢ તરફને દક્ષિણા ભરત અને ઉત્તર તરફના ઉત્તરાર્ધ ભરત. ચુન્નહિમવંત પર્વત ઉપરથી નીકળતી ગંગા અને સિંધુ નદી વૈતાઢયમાં થઇને લવણ સમુદ્રમાં ભળે છે. તેથી ભરતના છ વિભાગ પડ્યા છે. આ છએ ખંડનું સામ્રાજ્ય મેળવે તે સાર્વભામ ચક્રવર્તી કહેવાય. તીર્થંકર, ચક્રવર્તી વગેરે દક્ષિણાના મધ્ય ખંડમાં થાય છે. અયોધ્યા નગરી એ દક્ષિણાર્ધના મધ્ય ખંડની वयोवस्थ द्वे भारतवर्ष, भरतक्षेत्र अर्ध चन्द्रमाके आकार है । तीन तरफ़ लवण समुद्र और उत्तर में चुल्लहिमवंत पर्वत है । अर्थात् लवणसमुद्र और चुहिमवंत पर्वतसे उसकी हद बंधी है । भारत के बीच में वेताढ्य पर्वत है । और उससे दो भाग होते हैं । वैतान्यकी दक्षिण तरफ़का दक्षिणार्ध भरत और उत्तर तरफ़का उत्तरार्थ भरत । चुल्लहिमवंत पर्वत के ऊपरसे निकलनेवाली गंगा और सिंधु नदी वैतान्यको गुफाओंसे निकलकर लवणसमुदमें मिलती हैं । इससे भरत के ६. विभाग होगये हैं । इन छः विभागोंका साम्राज्य प्राप्त करनेवाला चक्रवर्ती कहा जाता है । तीर्थकर वर्ती वगैरह दक्षिणार्धके मध्यखंडमें होते हैं । अयोध्या नगरी दक्षिणार्धके बिलकुल बीचमें है । Bharat Varsha; Bharatkshetra which is in the shape of semi-circular moon, is surrounded by Lavan Samudra on its three sides and has Chulla Himavaut mount in its North; here it is tantamount to say that it is bounded by Lavan Samudra and Chulla Himavant Mount. There is Vaitadḥya mountain in the midst of it, thereby bisecting it namely southern half on the south of Vaitadḥya and northern half on its north. The Ganges and the Indus, having their sources in the Chulla Himavant mount meet in the Lavan Samudra, passing through the Vaitadḥya mountain. Thereby Bharat is divided into six parts. One who gets victory over all these six divisions is called Sovereign. The Tirthankaras and the Chakravartis always take birth in the middle region of the southern half of Bharat. The city of Ayodhya is located in the very centre of the southernhalf of Bharat.
