________________ Foreword (By the Original Author) The Jaina religion is unique one. The philosophy and doctrines of Jaina Religion, the geography of Jaina Religion and the procedure of salvation of soul (Mokshs) in Jaina Religion are entirely distinct. Whoever understands it and follows the path shown by it, achieves ultimately liberation. What Jaina Religion reveals about the salvation of soul, is such an incredible philosophy that one can achieve thedivine state of soul after comprehending it thoroughly. Many have trodden this path and obtained the ultimate bliss. Jain Religion is one of the oldest religions of India. We may say that it is the oldest in entire world. Great scholars have stated accepting this fact about the ancient existence of Jaina Religion. It is true that this religion prevails in India today, but days were there when Jaina Dharma was being adored in many countries of the world. The architectural remnants found in many other countries today that prove the existence of Jaina Religion in those countries too. There are some rigid doctrines in Jainism, one of which state that the Jaina Sadhus cannot travel in vehicles. Due to this doctrine, Jaina Sadhus couldn't maintain the contact with the world spread followers and ultimately the spread of this religion shrunk to persist in India only. But now, the equipments of communication are available in many varieties, which has caused the increased attraction for Jaina Dharma among the scholars of the world. People have started making efforts to understand the Jaina Religion and to obtain eternal bliss. There is a reason why I have specified this. iii

________________ I am a Jaina Sadhu (monk). I got initiated in my childhood. Today I am sixty one and forty nine years have passed since I have initiated and I am entirely satisfied with the way I could worship and adherence to the Jaina Dharma after my Initiation. I stayed at Vijaynagar Jaina Sangh in 1992 for Chaturmas. Ms. Ludmila Savelyeva from Mosco- Russia had come to Gujarat Vidyapith, Ahmedabad. Shri Ramlal Parikh was the Vice-Chancellor of Gujarat Vidyapith at that time. She asked him if he could recommend a teacher, who can teach her about the Jaina Dharma. Shri Ramla Parikh suggested my name, so she came to meet me during Chaturmas. She asked many questions about the Jaina Dharma out of curiosity. I advised her to understand such things gradually with patience which she gladly followed and came to me for about three months daily to study Jaina Dharma. When she was about to return to Russia, she asked me how much she should pay for the teaching. I got amused and sudden laughter appeared to my face. I told her, "Sister, I am a Jaina Sadhu and I do not need any penny. I do not even tough money!" She got the idea. One of by books, 'Koi Dali Koi Ful' was recently published at that time. She took that book in her hand, she liked it. She knew Gujarati very well. She read the book and had a feeling to translate the book. She told me that she would return with a Russian translation of that book. She actually returned after two months and put the Russian Translation of that book in front of me. I was extremely happy. A gentleman named Alexey Smirnov had translated the book. : No contact could ever be established again with Ms. Ludmila Savelyeva. I got engrossed in my activities, but eventually, Shri Hasmukh Baradi, a scholarly dramatist of Gujarati theatre met me one day. He had been to Russia between 1969 to 1971. I showed the Russian translation to him

________________ He became very glad and marked some words on the copy of that translation. These words were 1. Good 2. Translation of the stories is very good and the language is lucid. 3. Please show the minor corrections in both the introductions to the translator 4. Many congratulations to Maharajshri and the translator.- Hasmukh Baradi. 18-06-93. Hasmukh Baradi wanted this book to be published. I had no contacts in Russia. I always remained occupied in my busy schedule. Just two years back, the current ViceChancellor Dr. Anamik Shah came to meet me. I recollected the whole episode of translation and I told the whole series of incidents to him and requested to find out Ms. Ludmila Savelyeva and contact her, but no contact could be made. Now I was in deep worry as to how could this translation be published? Incidentally Dr. Maunas Thaker from Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University met me. Meanwhile, I had a Book named Jain Dharma to be published and we needed a person who could review the typed English version of the book. Dr. Yogendra Parekh, head of Gujarati Department of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University suggested the name of Dr. Maunas Thaker from his own University who nicely completed that work. Incidentally, I expressed my worry about the Russian translation to him too and a new ray of hope began to rise. Dr. Maunas Thaker told me that one of his friends had been to Russia for study. This is how, Dr. Saurav Mistri, dentist by occupation, came into the picture who established a link with his friend Dr. Sandeep Oza whose wife Mrs. Natalia Oza is from Russia (Belarus in fact). I requested them to see the translation and get it typed again for publication. They got this task done and this is how, with the help of such devout people, this book is prepared and now, being published by Shri Manubhai Shah, the owner of Gujar Granthratn Karyalay (Ahmedabad, Gujarat) the most well-known publication house of Gujarat

________________ I really don't know how the translation is done and whether there are any corrections needed or not. I even don't know that language. But it is indeed a historical and remarkable fact that a collection of stories written by a Jaina Sadhu is going to be published in Russian version for the first time in the thousands of years' history of the Jaina Religion in the world. What do we mean by Jaina Stories? These stories tell us about Dharma (religion), Philosophy, History and Traditions. There are extraordinary stories in the rich treasure of stories in Jaina Dharma. These stories have been spread alover the world in various forms. One small example is that of a very popular play of William Shakespeare, "The Merchant of Venice". The roots of this story are laying in the Uttaradhyayan Sutra of Agama of Jaina Dharma. So, the Jaina stories are spread out all-over the world in varied forms. I have been writing Jaina Stories for many years. My language of writing is Gujarati which is popular in Gujarati society too. These stories are translated in Marathi, Hindi, English and now in Russian. I have got immense pleasure in writing these stories as the writer of stories does not have any self-interest in it. These stories are written with a self-less spirit that whoever would read these stories would have eternal bliss. I have written stories with the same spirit from my childhood. There have been 60 books on various subjects till today. On an occasion of publication of the Russian translation of this book, I have two reasons to be happy about. 1. This is a historical event of Jaina Religion and 2. These inspirational stories are going to be available to new and huge number of people. As I said before, I am a JainaSadhu- Acharya. This is a divine religion. Whoever follows this religion, gains bliss of soul. Jaina Sadhus always humbly believe that every good deeds performed by you are due to kind grace of guru, god and dharma.
