________________ 1552 TATTVASANGRAHA: CHAPTER XXVI. TEXT (3565). WHO ELSE EXCEPT THE FOOL CAN REGARD THE TEACHING OF THE Buddhas AS HAVING ITS SOURCE IN DELUSION, -WHEN IT HAS BEEN PROVED TO BE THE FLAWLESS EXPOSITION OF THE PATH TO HEAVEN AND THE FINAL GOAL?-(3565) COMMENTARY. It cannot be admitted that the Teaching is capable of another explanation. Because the flawless exposition of the Path to Heaven and Final Liberation cannot have its source in Delusion;--and that the Teaching of the Blessed Lord is flawless has been proved by all the investigations and tests herein made. Fool'-ie. Kumärila. He is a fool if he entertains the idea referred to. -(3565) It has been argued, under Text 3225, that-"The teaching of Buddha, etc. might have been for the purpose of deluding their disciples, etc. etc.". The answer to this is as follows: TEXT (3566). IT IS INDEED A GREAT DELUSION THAT HAS BEEN BROUGHT ABOUT BY BUDDHA IN HIS DISCIPLES WHO, DURING THE PRESENT LIFE ITSELF, HAVE ATTAINED, THROUGH IT, PROSPERITY, AS ALSO THE HIGHEST STAGE OF THE ALLEVIATION OF ALL AFFLICTIONS OF THE MIND!-(3566) COMMENTARY. Driştē'-during the present life. Prosperity in the shape of lasting health, vigour and so forth;-these 'they have attained'—such is the construction. Alleviation of all afflictions of the Mind'-i.e. the cessation of Love, Hatred and other defects. Through it'-Through the proper following of the Teachings of the Lord, regarding Mantras, Meditations, etc. A great delusion has been brought about' - This is figurative; the sense is--if you regard this as 'delusion', then it is you yourself who ore deluded, - inasmuch as you regard what is not delusion, as delusion.-(3566) It has been argued, under Text 3226, that - "If it were based upon the Veda, then they should have imparted it to the expounders of the Veda itself, etc. etc.". The answer to this is as follows:
