________________ 12 / Lord Mahavira 1. Morality Mahavira believed that if money is earned for satisfaction of one's need, It is acceptable. But if it is done at the expense of the discomfort of others, it is undesirable. Moral values present a guidelines for leading an ideal life. Violation of Moral Values leads to depression due to the feeling of repentance. If moral values are adhered to, it will lead to the spiritual progress of man. A feeling of distribution of surplus wealth should be inculcated. There is no compulsory relationship between usefulness and profitability in span of morality. A Commodity that is useful for satisfaction of needs, may not be necessarily profitable. It is not true that morality has no place in Economics. There are some economists, who believe in the use of honest and welfare oriented practices in deciding economic policies. Economics should be provided on moral basis. A revamping of economic system based on the principle of Ahimsa and peace is necessary. Weapons do not provide a sense of security, rather they are the source of world wide unrest. Without control over passions, we con not approach to seek the morality.
