________________ INTRODUCTION. The work presented to the public in the following pages is the composition of an illustrious figure in the history of Sanskṛta Literature. The present work-Linganuśâsana deals succinctly in thirty verses of the Aryâ metre with the genders of nouns in Sanskṛta. Two more verses in the Vasantatilakâ metre are added at the end by the author about the sources and himself. It is, as the author himself says at the end, based on the works of Vyâḍi, Vararuchi, and Chandra and on the Jainendra Vyakarana (of Devanandi alias Pujyapâda).1 The commentary, which clearly explains the aphoristic verses, is written by the author himself.
