________________ 10 section the homonyms are classified according to the number of their syllables, ranging from one to five. Then follows a similar treatment of indeclinables (avyayas). A separate treatment is then given to the individual letters of the alphabet. Then homonyms are first classified according to their final consonants and then arranged according to the number of their syllables. The whole pariccheda is composed in verse. Pariccheda VI expounds the salient features of Rasas and Bhavas, in the form of sutras, vytli apd udaharanas. It deals with nine Rasas, the corresponding nine Sthayi Bhavas and the thirty-three Vyabhicari Bhavas. The MS. ends abruptly wish the first letter of the sutra enumerat. ing the eight Sattvika Bhavas. This topic may have been followed by that of the Rasabhasas and the Bhavabhasas. The missing matter, which is here drawn from the remaining portion of the second adhyaya of Kavyanusasana by Hemacandracarya and inserted in large brackets, seems to have covered two folios following the last extant folio of the incomplete MS. Unless and until the missing portion of the work be recovered, it is difficult to ascertain whether the work ended with this pariccheda. The Author of Kavyasiksa : As the concluding folios of the MS. are missing, the Prasasti of the author which the MS. may have contained at the end ) is not available. The Puspikas of the Paricchedas supply some information about the author of the work. The Puspika of Pariccheda I introduces the work as compiled by Sri Vinayacandracarya, the author of twenty Prabandhas; and the Puspikas of the following Paricchedas represent the work as composed by Acarya Sri Vinayacandra. All the Puspikas introduce Kav yasiksa as Vinayanka, i. e., marked with the word Vinaya, which invariably figures in the concluding verse of every Pariccheda. Thus the work is composed by Acarya Sri Vinayacandra, who was known as the author of twenty Prabandhas. of the other works of this author, only two are known so far. One of them is a mahakavya entitled Malli svamicarita published under the title of Mallinathacaritra in the Yasovijaya Jain Series in the Vira year 2438 (1911 A. C.). The common appellation Vinayanka ascribed to that mahakavya bears testimony to the identification of its author Vinayacandra with the author of Kavyasiksa. In the Prasasti given in the mabakavya Vinayacandra is represented as the pupil of Raviprabha, a learned scholar who composed various works and attained salvation on Mt. Raivata (Girnar). The mabakavya was composed by Vinayacandra at the instance of Narendraprabha, pupil of Narasimhasuri. It was edited
