There is a legend which says that, when Svayambhuva Manu. king Vena forbade the worship of gods by the Brahmans, the latter slew him and produced Prithu by rubbing his right thigh, and that Prithu reverenced Bráhmans and had S'ukra, the son of Bhrigu, as his Purohita. It is not known how and when Vena or his descendants became Brahmans and Bhargavas. Probably they were regarded as Bráhmans when Bhrigu's son became their priest. Or, it is possible that Prithu was procreated by Brâhman Rishi, and that, as an allegorical representation of this fact, he is said to have been produced by rubbing Vena's thigh.
