7. Highlighting references to Vipassana, etc. Passages making explicit or implicit references to Vipassana, Paññā, Nirodha, etc. in the Tipitaka have been indicated in a different type which, involuntarily, draws the attention of meditators towards such passages. This aspect is bound to prove a very inspiring feature for students of the technique, as well as scholars.
8. Re-inclusion of formerly omitted passages. The Pāli literature stems from an oral tradition where it was very common for the same phrases or passages to be repeated. Most previous printed versions have omitted these repetitions (called peyyālas). V.R.I. has chosen to include peyyālas whenever they are found to elucidate the understanding of Vipassana, Paññā, Nirodha, etc.
9. Summary of 'contents' in Hindi. Every volume of the Tipitaka will contain a brief summary of the contents of that volume in Hindi.
10. Introduction to the Tipitaka. In addition, a detailed introduction to the Tipitaka, with quotations numbering more than one thousand, is being published in Hindi. This will unfold a panoramic view of the entire Tipitaka before its readers. Its English translation will also be published.
11. Booklet on the Style of Exposition of Commentarial Literature. A booklet explaining the style of exposition of commentaries and sub-commentaries of the Tipitaka will be published in Hindi for the benefit of readers having inadequate knowledge of Pāli.
12. Translations of Summaries and Introductions. In future when the Institute publishes the Pāli literature in the scripts of other languages, the summaries of the 'contents' of each volume and introductions will be published in the respective languages.
13. Simultaneous publication of Tipitaka and commentaries. Rather than publish the entire Tipitaka first, with subsequent publication of the Atthakathā and sīkā, the Vipassana Research Institute has undertaken to publish the entire family of the Pitaka volumes simultaneously. For example, the Digha Nikāya family has been published in eleven volumes: Digha Nikāya text in three volumes, the commentary on the Digha Nikāya (Sumangalavilāsinī) in three volumes, the sub-commentary Linatthappakāsanā in three volumes and Abhinava sīkā in two volumes. This simultaneous publication will allow scholars to find the entire material related to the
