________________ [ 217 1 ved that undertaking. With a vivid vision one should try for the fruit, if it gets destroyed at wrong time, daiva alone is the reason. A work that is associated with much labour, and bears no fruit arousing special jealousy, should not be undertaken by the wise. A work conducive to welfare is always praised by the wise. I A work done in time is conducive to welfare,2 Happiness in mind, faith, cleverness in means, goodness, too much of industriousness, coming in of wealth all these are characteristics of karma. A karma based on little means without any impediment right from the beginning brings forth success. 3 A work approved by the majority in accordance with the scriptures and bringing welfare, is said to be conducive to welfare.4 A work should be done in time. To be engrossed in · work is very difficult. One cannot have the opportunity time and again. Work done with sincerity according to the wise always fructifies. 6 An intellect having become strong because of the intake of Sattvaguņa creates fruit of Lakşmī, just as the fuel creates the fire. Wisdom and effort bring forth the necessary fruit, just as several elements together mixed up bring forth gold or curds bring forth ghee.? Just aś shadow does not leave the body, similarly a courageous and wise worker of pure acts is not given up by Lakşmi. Effort inakes even the weak sturdy.
