common subject-matter upto the tenth Sthana, they contain similar sutras-similar either in words or in meaning. Their comparison is given in the third Appendix. And the comparison of the Sthānangasūtra with the Samavāyāngasūtra as also their comparison with other works are set out in the seventh Appendix. There are so many topics in the Sthanāngasutra which have similarity-great or little-pertaining to words or meaning with those treated of in the Buddhist works included in the Pali Tripitakas. This is demonstrated in the fourth Appendix. In this context we have quoted many textual extracts from the Amguttaranikāya (= Ekottara nikaya) and the Puggalapaññatti. And all the remaining important material is included in the eighth Appendix. Scholars should read it.

COMMENTARIES (VṚTTIS) ON STHANANGA
SAMAVAYANGA
The oldest commentary on the Sthänängasūtra is the one composed by Ac. Abhayadevasūri. It has been published by Ray Dhanapatasimhaji, Calcutta, 1880 A. D.; by Agamodaya Samiti, 1918 A. D. and 1920 A. D.; and by Sheth Maneklal Chunilal, Ahmedabad, 1937 A. D. Many Hindi and Gujarati translations have also been published. The first part of the Dipika composed by Nagarṣigani in 1657 V. S. has been published by the Devacand Lalbhai Pustakoddhāra Fund, Surat. The Sthanangavrttigatagāthāvivarana composed by Sumatikallola and Harṣavardhana in 1705 V. S. is available in manusuripts.
The Vrtti on the Samavāyāngasūtra, composed by Abhayadevasūri in 1120 V. S. has been published by Ray Dhanapatasimhaji, Culcutta, 1880 A. D.; by Agamodaya Samiti, 1919 A. D.; and by Pt. Mafatlal Jhaverchandra, Ahmedabad, 1938 A. D.
The offset print of the Agamodaya Samiti edition of the Sthänängasutra and the Samavāyāngasūtra with Abhayadevasūri's vrttis thereon will be published very soon by Motilal Banarasidas, Delhi 7. This offset print is embellished with various appendices.
