the preparation of the critical edition of the Samavāyāngasūtra. Of them three are palm-leaf manuscripts and five paper manuscripts. The description of the three palm-leaf manuscripts is as follows:
(1-2) 3. These two manuscripts belong to the manuscript library in Jesalmer. In the catalogue they are listed under Nos. 8 and 9 respectively. The manuscript bearing No. 8 consists of 134 folios; folios 1-45 contain the text of the Samavāyāngasūtra alone, folios 46-134 contain the text of the Samavāyāngasūtravrtti composed by Abhayadevasūri in 1120 V. S. The manuscript has been written in the year 1487 V. S. The size is 331" x 27". We obtained this manuscript after the text had been printed. Hence we could utilise it in writing foot-notes to the eighth Appendix as also in demonstrating variants on pp. 417-418, 431-436, 445-448, 465-466, 479-480 of the same Appendix. It has been given the signs'.
The manuscript bearing No. 9 consists of 215 folios; folios 1-64 contain the text of the Samavāyāngasūtra alone while folios 65-215 contain the text of the Vrtti by Abhayadevasûri. The manuscript has been given the sign org . We obtained this manuscript too after the completion of the printing of the text of the Samaväyångasūtra. Hence we could utilise it in writing foot-notes -etc. to the eighth Appendix. The size is 27" x 2".
(3) . This palm-leaf manuscript belongs to the Sri Sāntinātha Tälapatra Grantha Bhandāra, Cambay. It bears No. 37. It consists of 330 folios; folios 1-97 contain the text of the Samavāyangasūtra alone, folios 98-330 contain the Samavāyāngasūtravrttil composed by Abhayadevasūri in 1120 V. S. The size is 15" x 24".
