________________ श्रमण BOOK REVIEW Philosophy and Spirituality of Srimad Rajcandra by Dr. U.K. Pungaliya, Published by Prakrit Bharati Academy, Jaipur, Sanmati Teerth, Pune Price : Rs. 180.00, Size : Demy. śrīmad Rajcandra, one of the greatest yogis, saints and soteriologists (HATT/ATERIAI) of the last century, preached the religion of self-Purification (31TCHEH), putting aside sectarian beliefs and dogmas. Born of a Jaina mother and a Vaishnava father, śrīmad imbibed the best of the two religions. Young Gandhi met a genius truth seeker in Rajcandra and learnt two great things from him truth and non-violence. Śrīmad excercised the greatest influence on the Mahatma. What impressed Gandhi most in the life of Rajcandra was the latter's attempt to reach the spiritual heights while leading the life of a house-holder. In his short span of 34 years, Rajcandra has written on various subjects extensively and his correspondence and notes run into thousands of pages. Most of his writings are personal and hence not meant for public at large. They are utterances of a seen. Nevertheless they are important not only to understand the mind of the author but also for an aspirant of truth-realization. Dr. U.K. Pungalia's book Philosophy and Spirituality of Srimad Rajcandra is an important work which closely analyses not, only the basic philosophy of the saint but also the spiritual attainments of the Jain Education International For Private & Personal Use Only www.jainelibrary.org
