________________ Publisher's Note It gives us great pleasure in placing in the hands of scholars interested in Sanskrit and Prakrit studies the present volume, Prakrit Verses In Sanskrit Works on Poetics. Most of the Prakrit verses cited as examples in Sanskrit works on poetics have been presented here for the first time in their correct form. Volume II which will soon follow, contains Introduction, Translation, Explanatory and Comparative Notes and Glossary • of Notable Words occurring in these verses. These two volumes, we feel confident, will give a fairly good idea about the richness excellence and importance of Prakrit poetry and its place in Indian and even world poetry. We thank Professor V. M. Kulkarni for this stupendous work done single-handed, and earnestly hope that the scholarly world will warmly appreciate it. Our thanks are also due to shri G. G. Barve of Ved Vidya Mudranalaya, Pune who has spared no efforts to make the volume attractive. Bombay 31 August, 1988 Pratap Bhogilal Chairman, Governing Council B. L. Institute of Indology, Delhi
