Carlson is an astronomer Emeritus of the Adler Planetarium and Museum of Astronomy, Chicago, Illinois, where he has authored many scripts for their skyshows, including the annual December skyshow exploring the mystery of the Star of the Magi. He is currently working on two forthcoming skyshows at the Adler and is consultant for the project that in the Footsteps of the Magi is describing. O F MARGARE INLATUMIA ME 4:00 PM-5:00 PM IN ENGINEERING 3.60 Our Winds of Deep Change Toward Justice, Truth and Reconciliation in South Africa Mr. Wilhelm Verwoerd This lecture will begin with a brief description of the work of the South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) over the last three years. This lecture will include personal observations by the presenter, who was a TRC staff member. The presenter will explore the spiritual challenges of the TRC through examining political cartoons about the commission process. This lecture will have a particular focus on questions of justice, truth, and reconciliation in post-apartheid South Africa. Mr. Wilhelm Verwoerd is a Lecturer of Political Philosophy and Applied Ethics at the University of Stellenbosch. He worked as a full-time researcher within the Truth and Reconciliation Commission between 1996 and 1998. He has published an autobiographical account of his own journey of personal and political transformation entitled My Winds of Change. SEA 4:00 PM-4:45 PM IN ENGINEERING 1.13 Play for Peace Planning Session Mr. Michael Terrian; Craig Dobkin Participants will work with Play for Peace representatives to create plans to develop Play for Peace communities in their country of origin. This is a wonderful opportunity to create a Gift of Service in your own region of the world. Michael Terrian is the co-founder of Play for Peace. Michael is President of the Geneva Group, Inc., a consulting firm focused on organizational learning. Michael was Associate Director of the Outdoor Wisconsin Leadership School where he developed the College's Wilderness Counsel Program serving youth at risk in the state of Wisconsin. He has served the Association for Experiential Education as board member and regional president and was given their 1999 Service Leader Award. Michael graduated from George Williams College and has received a Certificate in Executive Education from Harvard. Craig Dobkin is the co-founder of Play for Peace and is also the program coordinator at the West Pines Training Center, an experiential based community building resource. Craig taught at Towson State University for 12 years and in public schools for five. A recipient of the Association for Experiential Education's 1995 Michael Stratton Award, Mr. Dobkin is Board President for Youth Biz, an entrepreneurial business program for Denver's inner city youth. Craig holds à M. Ed. from the University of Pittsburgh. Islam advocates a non Muslim's right to embrace Islam but does Islam give Muslims the similar right to convert to another religion? Well grounded in Islamic and Western tradition and Philosophy, Professor Mahmood A. Ghazi is the current Vice-President (academic) of the International Islamic University, Islamabad, Pakistan. He is also a member of the Shariah Appellate Branch. Supreme Court of Pakistan. 4:00 PM-4:45 PM IN ENGINEERING 3.15 Technology, Information Revolution and Lifestyle Adjustments in Families Prof. Dolly Dastoor With the rapid advances in technology, information is available to children and adults within seconds of its transmission. This has both advantages and disadvantages. This presentation will discuss what effect this technological revolution is having on family life style, family values, religious knowledge, morality. ethics, on socialization, and interpersonal relationships. The technological revolution is affecting and will continue to affect our psyche and our way of responding. What role will women as keepers of family values or transmitters of oral religious traditions have in the next decade?
