________________ NRTYARATNAKOSA ( 25 to his dominions this important city and the district of Nagaur, a Muslim stronghold which the dissolution of the kingdom of Delhi, following Timur's invasion of India, enabled him to acquire. But in his fight with Bhāțis Tānā and Mira—sons of Raningadeo whom Chonda had slain-he was killed at the gate of the city. Tānā and Mirā, who had accepted Islam, had obtained a force from Khizir Khan, then governor of Multan, with which they attacked their enemy. The death of Chonda occured in 1408 and Nagaur was then lost to the Rathods" (CHI Vol III, p. 522). It again came under the rule of Delhi Sultans. Prince Firuz the heir apparent to the throne of Sultan Muhmmad Tughluq married the beautiful sister of Sadhu and Saharan (Sadharani who were Tank Rajputs. These two brothers accompanied their sister to Delhi and later acce creed of Islam. Saharan got the title of Wajih-ul-Mulk (the suppo of the state) of Didwana. He became governor of Nagaur. Majsul-Mulk had two sons--Zafar Khan (born at Delh and Shams Khan (Comm. History of Gujarat, Vol. I, p. 48). In 1396 Muhamud Shah, the youngest son of Firuz appointed Zafar Khan to the government of Gujarat who later on became the first Sultan of Gujarat under the name of Muzaffar Shah (1396). Shams Khan his brother became governor of Nagaur after his father Wajih-ulMulk. It appears that when Muzaffar Shah become an independent ruler the region of Nagor also cane under Gujarat. So the Sultans of Gujarat could not put up with the depredations of the Rathods of Marwar and the Sisodias of Mewar. We have noted that Chonda Rathod was killed in 1408 at Nagor and that the place was lost to the Rathods But according to Mehta Nainsi's Khyat, Ran Mal- the eldest son of Chonda recovered the place and took up his residence there. But this does not appear to be true, because according to the Samiddhes'vara Mahādeva Temple inscription (A.D. 1429) Mahārāņā Mokal had to invade Nagor. He defeated Firoz Khan son of Shams Khan, and compelled him to accept his suzerainty. It must have been this event which involved Mokal in a fight with Ahamado who could not tolerate the defeat of his uncle's son. So when Maharana Kumbhā came to the throne of Mewar there was something like a state of war between Gujarat and Mewar and 1. C.H.I.. Vol. III, p. 294. 2. According tu Sarda, Sadharan, was the name of Zafar Khan when he was a Hindu. p. 43. Maharana Kumbha. 3. Sarda says, 'Shams Khan had obtained from his elder brother Muzaffar Shah, the first Sultan of Gujarat, the province of Nagor' p. 44., Maharana Kumba. 4. According to Sarda 1410 A.D. (p. 24). 5. Ibid, p. 25. 6. Sarda, Mabarana Kumbha p. 27.
