P. rdun 4) "The Mimämsakas, different from the Vedantins, are those who hold that what is revealed in the Vedas is self-existent and exclusively true, and who denounce all the right means of deliverance, that is, meditation and learning. By contradicting all the doctrinal expositions, they maintain that deliverance can be attained only by means of sacrificial rites; just like jugglers, they let their students dead to all sense of shame; by forty-eight Samskaras they qualify their followers for a Brahmaṇa. D271a)" Then, TJ goes in details to an explanation of the forty-eight Samskaras: garbhadhāna (or ceremony to cause conception), pumsavana (or ceremony to cause the birth of a male child), simantonnayana (or arranging the parting of the pregnant wife's hair), jätakarman (or ceremony on the birth of the child), namakarana (or ceremony of naming the child), annaprāśana (or the first feeding), caula (or tonsure of the head of the child), and so forth.
