FOREWORD.
The writing of something like a foreword to: this book of sublime songs aud prayers composed by recognized writers and edited by a sound savant is certainly a presumption and requires an apology: I have only to say that I cannot -propose anything to state here by way of sup.plementing the theme or the Introduction. What I propose to do is to make a short humble statement regarding the importance of the book to students and the place it deserves to occapy in the hearts of houselesss monks and devoted householders. .- It gives me much pleasure to say that the present volume which is intended to form the first volume of the Prachina--Jaina-Sahityodhara-granthāvali (Ancient Jain Literature Publication Series ) forms a right pioneer for the series and opens up altogether a new vista to workers in the field of Jain literature, religion
