I see a rainbow, with a spectrum of colors that symbolizes hope for Jains all over the world. Just like these seven colors - red, orange, yellow, green, blue indigo, and violet symbolize many wonderful things, let me share that vision with you-my hopes, wishes and vision for the future. .............. JAINA providing literature, funds and the manpower to strengthen or start a pathshala in every Jain center. An ever increasing senior citizens' programs, extending a helping hand to our elders and benefit from their experience. From the Editor Increasing the number of temple facilities serving the Jain community. Moving forward - because of the JAINA Charitable Trust, "A Million by the Millennium" and the many other fund raising programs, JAINA is becoming stronger financially. JAINA is on a solid financial foundation upon which to build for the future. Building a healthy community through the increased participation of everyone. This can be seen in the involvement of ladies, our children and those people who are Jain by choice. Jai Jinendra. Jain Digest salutes the Jain Society of Metropolitan Chicago for hosting the eighth Biennial JAINA Convention. Headquarters News lists the many ac- complishments of the current group of over 200 volunteers, still much more needs to be done. Our best wishes are with the upcoming group of volunteers who will lead the way in the on going process of improving JAINA. Our active participation at all levels will insure a vibrant and forward moving organization. JAINA is an association of associa- tions. Today there are 50 Jain centers in North America. Their incoming directors are recognized in this issue. We would like to publish a series of articles on the history of many of these centers. The current issue carries the history of the Jain Center of Alberta, Canada. In addition, we would like to write about the venerable Jain institutions throughout the world. Young Jains of America and Letters to the Editor will appear in the next issue. Your help is needed in keeping our mailing list up to date. If you have moved, please let us know. Finding that you have moved through the post office costs JAINA additional funds. It means that the magazine is discarded by the post office and you missed out! We must eliminate this waste. Welcoming the vital and fresh ideas of the younger generation into JAINA. Last year their convention in Chicago drew over four hundred young adults, gathered to discuss their role in the future of Jainism. More than 3,000 children and young adults are expected to attend the 1995 - 8th Biennial JAINA Convention. Increasing the interfaith activities, which nourish tolerance and compassion and develop an understanding of other religions. By blending this spectrum of ideas we get peace, tranquility and harmony. Through the practice of Ahimsa and Anekantvad in our daily lives we come together and accommodate each others differences in order to build our community's contribution to an important, healthy, understanding and growing aspect of the world community. Jai Jinendra. Sincerely, Harshad Shah Jagat Jain JAIN DIGEST For Private & Personal Use Only June 1995 www.jainelibrary.org
