Kumar for their efforts as Chief Editors in nurturing Jain Digest for past nine years. Efforts of the Managing Editorial Board in publishing the current issue is also recognized. JAINA is becoming a more vibrant organization and the Jain Digest will attempt to capture that spirit and regularly report on activities of Jains, as reported by regions, primarily in North America. Longrange plans are shaping up to put this magazine on a solid financial footing. We are taking advantage of technology to better communicate our ideas and opinions. And talking about opinions, let us have yours in the form of Letters to Editor. Together, we can make this magazine even better and improve the Federation of JAINA. Harshad M. Shah. March 1994 Jain Education International 2010_02 JAINA Is Ready To Take-Off It has been over eight months since the Pittsburgh Convention when we assumed responsibility for serving the Jain Community of North America. We started with a 10-year plan of JAINA's activities; establishing cordial relations with Siddhachalam and Jain Sangh of Chicago; opening the JAINA Headquarters with Internship program at Buffalo; institutionalizing JAINA and associating youths and women with the organization. Now, we have been functioning as per our current 2-year plan (see page 15-18). We have started a monthly newsletter - JAINA Focus for communicating with community leaders whom we also mailed 'JAINA at a Glance' and initiated town hall type meetings with local communities; introduced professionalism through shared decision making, collective leadership. participative management, leadership workshops, invoicing for annual dues and regular publication of accounts; come up with a suggested Code of Conduct for spiritual and community leaders; prepared eight Jain religious books for children (ready) to go to press); undertaken several community service projects; associated more youths with JAINA committees and are preparing for JAINA's first Youth President's Message President Jagar Jain V.P. - North East Naresh Shah Jagat Jain EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE OF JAINA First Vice President Manibhai Mehta V.P.-South East Mahendra Dosi Convention; launched Million by Millennium project for the Jain Digest, and recently opened JAINA's regional office in Toronto, Canada. Currently, plans are underway to establish the JAINA Charitable Trust. Once this trust comes into being, JAINA will take off on its monumental mission of helping 100,000 Jains of North America to become. messengers of non-violence and setting an example of unity for the rest of the Jains of the World. The publication of Jain Digest has been moved to the headquarters at Buffalo. I want to thank on my behalf and on behalf of the Federation of JAINA the two former chief editors of JAIN DIGEST. Mr. S.A.B. Kumar (Chief editor-1985-89) gave birth to the JAIN DIGEST and nurtured it as an infant. Dr. S.K. Jain (Chief editor 198993) brought the infant JAIN DIGEST to the present stage of adolescence. The new Chief Editor, Mr. Harshad Shah, I am confident, will protect the adolescent JAIN DIGEST till it attains maturity. I welcome the new editor. JAI JINENDRA. V.P.
