Jain Society of Greater Detroit is pleased to announce net collection of $46,000 at their fourth annual fund raising dinner which was held on February 5, 1994, at the Hyatt Regency, Dearborn, Michigan. Temple project is expected to be completed by the end of 1994 and 'Murti Prtishtha' will hopefully be completed in 1995. Thanks to all society members who helped to make this event successful.
Diwali Holidays with Snatra Pooja on Diwali and Mangalik Vanchan on New Year's Day. JSSJ holds Swadhyaya meetings and Bhavana (recital of Jain hymns) on first Friday of every month, with area Jain families getting together to discuss the Jain precepts and philosophy. In addition during the month of January, Mr. T.U. Mehta, a noted Indian jurist and Jain scholar, gave discourses on Jain Philosophy.
Mr. Suresh Doshi a long time member of the South Jersey Jain community reported that JSSJ is excited about hosting the 1995 JAINA Convention, and they are at present looking for appropriate convention facilities that will accommodate a large turnout expected at this convention.

Jain Society of Capital District will celebrate Mahavir Jayanti and the first anniversary of Mahavir Pratishtha on Saturday, May 7, 1994. The Society hosted the Jain delegates of the Parliament of World Religions on 29th August, they were taken round the Center and were apprised about the activities of the Society. The invitees were much impressed and gave expression of their feelings during the talks that followed. Prominent among the speakers were Shri Atmanandji, Shri Chitrabhanuji, Muni Jinchandraji, Dr. L.N. Singhvi and Dr. Kumarpal Desai. Jinchandraji rightly castigated the people concerned for not including the recitation of Navakarmantra at the inauguration of the Parliament when other religion got the opportunity to recite their prayers.
This was followed by the unveiling of the statue of Virchand Gandhi who attended the first Parliament in 1893 as the representative of Jains. The staute was sent by the people of Mahuva, the native place of Shri Gandhi. First Shri Ramesh Solanki gave a brief account of the life of Shri Gandhi. Thereafter the statue was unveiled by Sarvashri Ravindra Kobawala, Bipin Parikh and Kishore Shah.
This was followed by performance of Nem-Rejul dance drama directed by Dr. Megha Doshi. It was the superb performance close to the professional one. Everyone was pleased with the performance and highly appreciated it.

Diwali and New Year's Day were celebrated by the Jain Center of America beginning with continuous Navkar Mantra Jaap (recitation) on November 12 and 13, 1993. On November 14, 1993, New Year's Day began with Manglik Vanchan, followed by Snatra Pooja sponsored by the Vakani Family. Refreshment was served after the Pooja, providing opportunity for all to exchange the New Year's greetings.
Jain Center of America will celebrate the Mahavir Jayanti on April 24, 1994, with traditional Pooja in the morning and cultural program in the afternoon that will be followed by a community dinner.
Jain community of New York City was shocked by the broad daylight murder of one of its members, in the midtown Manhattan. Mr. Pravin Shah was apparently a victim of robbery and shooting at his news-stand on one of the busiest streets near the Pennsylvania Station in Manhattan. Jain community was grief stricken for loss of one of its members and expressed its outrage against such violence urging the Authroities to swiftly apprehend
