________________ DISTINGUISHED JAINS HONOURED IN DELHI Delhi.The Jain Sabha of New Delhi organised Felicitation Function in the month of October to honour distinguished Jains from different parts of india and abroad. Dr .S.D. Sharma, vicepresident of India, was the chief guest on the occasion. Addressing the gathering, the vicepresident pleaded with the Jain community to play a leading role in the drought reliefs in the country and in creating a peaceful atmosphere in the land. The distinguished Jains honoured are; Dalchand Jain-member of parliment from Madhya Pradesh, Tarachand Barjatya-popular Hindi film producer from Bombay, vice-admiral Sukumal Jain, air vice-marshal P.K.Jain, Premchand Jain of Jayna Watch Co, Ratanlal Cangawal, D.K. Sangal-secretary telecommunications, P.C. Jain-Secret. defence production, Virendra K.Hegde of Dharmastala Shrine, Seth Lalchand Hirachand Doshi-industrialist, Srenik Kasturbhai-textile magnate of India, Saryu Doshi-Jain Art authority and industrialist, R.K.Jain-Railway Board Chairman, N.P.Jain-Indian Ambassador to Belgium, U.C. Colecha cf UK Jain Samaj, K. Kastur Shah-president of Jain Samaj UK and Bharat Shah-industrialist from Ahmedabad. JAIN SHRINES DEVELOPMENT IN U.P UP GOVT PLEDGES RS 500,000 Muzaffar Nagar, UP.The "Tirtha Vandana Chariot", wnich is crisscrossing India to bring about social, cultural and human awakening through the teachins of the Tirthankaras, recently arrived here. On the occasion, the chief minister of U.P., V.B. Sinha, was on hand to participate in the arrival ceremonies of the charriot. At that time, the chief minister caileci upon Jains to spread the messages of peace, harmony and Ahimsa among the masses and pledged RS 500,000 to develop various Jain shrines in the state that needed upkeeping and renovation. Sahu Ashok Jain, President of Jain Shrines Trust of India, on the occasion thanked the chief guest for the pledge and then talked about the contributions made by Jain Religion in enriching culture, art and literature as well providing leadership in the cause of India's unity in diversity. Further Jain appealed to the state and the federal govts to come forward with financial contributions of RS 200,000,000 as was made to Buddhists such that Jain Religion can play much more in the field of peace, social harmony, culture, Ahimsa and so forth for the benefit of the masses and the nation. DR RATAN KUMAR JAIN PASSED AWAY IN NAGPUR, INDIA During the summer of 1987, many Jain communities in USA and Canada have had an opportunity to listen to the dynamic lectures Dr Ratan Kumar Jain delivere on various topics of Jain Religion. With great sorrow, now we report that Dr Ratan Kumar Jain died of heart condition on Tuesday, October 13,1987 at 8.20 A.M. at his home in Nagpur India.
