________________ PRESIDENT'S LETTER Jain Jinendra. I am pleased to report to you that your federation has executed a plan to put every Jain in north America on the mailing list of Jain Digest, the quarterly news magazine of J AINA, and thus we will be able to serve individually and effctively. The plan will establish mass communication among all Jains, in particular, in north America. This undertaking by JAINA Federation has been made possible by one distinguished individual with his major financial contribution. We believe this plan will help us better informed of the Jain news at home and abroad. However, the financial implication of the plan is enoromus. Yet Jain community of north America needs to be informed of their news and their bretherns abroad, and of Jain Religion. With this objective, we have made a beginning, and hope this committment continues uninterrupted. Finally we hope that you cont.nu welcoming Jain Digest and be a part of it. In this direction, you are welcome to advise, participate and support in any way you could. MAHAVIR NIRVAN & VIR SAMVATSAR CELEBRATIONS Jains world over celebrated the doubly important festival, Mahavira Nirvan to pay homage on the occasion when Mahavira, the last and the 24th Tirthankara, attained Nirvana 2513 years ago, and thus began Vir Samvatsara calendar. The Jain New Year begins on the following day of Lord Mahavira,s Nirvana. Tansukh J Salgia Freemont, CA. Mahavir nirvan and the new year festivities were organised by Jain center of No California on Sunday, October 25, 1987. The program consisted of Pakshal and Pooja, devotional songs and cultural events. Toronto. Jain society of Toronto celebrated the festivities on October 25, 1987 at 50 Winterton Dr. The program bagan at 2.00 PM with Arihanta poojas in Hindi and Gujarati. There were many group musical presentations by children, youth group and the ladies. Also many other Jain societies celebrated the festivity in other parts of the country. CALL TO OBSERVE AHIMSA DAY Jain Education International 2010_02 Cincinnati, OH. The Jain center of Cincinnati programed Thanks Giving holiday into AHIMSA DAY on November 22,1987.
