Even though the tradition of works on Sanskrit poetics has adjudged the of Vägbhata (V. S. 12th century) to be a comparatively minor work,1 as many seven printed editions of the work are known and so many scholars have written commentaries on it. The commentaries are by

INTRODUCTION
Besides the works of these authors, we have an anonymous facqm of V.S. 1737.
Of the old commentaries, so far, those of Simhadevagani? and Jinavardhanasaris are published. The modern commentary of Jivananda Vidyasagara is also published. We are bringing out, for the first time, the work of Vägbhata together with the Vrtti of agenfo (V.S. 17th century). The critical edition, now being published is based on the following miss, collected with great effort.
