The namakarma group comprises the following ninetythree kinds of energies falling under forty-two heads, which are rosponsible for the formation of the different kinds of bodies and their organs: (1) Gati or condition of existence which is of four kinds, namely (1) manushya (human). (ii) tiryancha (lower forms of life, such as animals, vegetables 50 and the like), (iii) deva (life in heavens), and (iv) naraka (the condition of existence as a resident of hell) 52 (2) Jati, that is, type or class, which comprises the following five heads:-- (i) onc-sensed beings, (ü) two-sensed beings, (iii) three-sensed beings. (iv) four-sensed beings, and (v) beings with all the five senses. (3) Sharira, i e., body, which is of five kinds riz., (1) audarika, the outer body of gross matter, (ii) vaikriyaka, the outer body of devas (residents of heavens), and of those who are the denizens of hells, (iii) aharaka, an invisible body of small dimensions, which, 60 issues from the forehead of advanced ascetics alone, and enables them to visit the Teacher, if there be one in a dis tant land, (iv) taijasa, the body of luminous matter, and (v) kârmâna, the body of karmic energies. (4) Angopânga, that, is the principal and subsidiary limbs, which are of three kinds (i) audârika., i.e., pertaining to the physical body, (ii) vaikriyaka, pertaining to the vaikriyaka sarira which can 64 become big or small, and assume any form at will, and (iii) aharaka, i.e., pertaining to the aharaka body. (5) Nirmana, that is symmetry.
