king Navaghna; his victory over Sindhupati; the defeat of Arņorāja and the unethical invasions by Jayasimha and Kumārapāla are omitted by Hemcandra. Similarly some unethical activities of extra-ordinary heros are omitted There are a number of religious and architectural omissions on the part of Hemacandra.
Notwithstanding all these omissions, he had to change a number of his facts and figures to fit in the characteristics of a mahākāvya. It consists of the exaggerative style of expression, belief in divinity, introduction of mythological characters and the change in a number of names of the characters which may serve his illustrative purpose.
With this introduction of the poem, I am very happy that this work is being published by the Jain Munisri Munichandra Vijaya who has a gen. uine interest in restoring the Jain cultural heri. tage through the publication of this work of the doyne of Jainism. This work has not only a serious scope of grammatical study but also the vast storehouse of cultural material which has a need to be interpreted again' particularly in the light of contemporary sources. This opportunity shall be provided to scholars only after this work is published. I welcome and wish success in the accomplishment of this reprinting.
