PREFACE,
F-Deccan College Library No. 405 of 1879-80. First 2 sargas, and 84 verses of the third.] Here ends the note.
A, B, C, D, E, F are shown in the footnotes as , at, at, ET, , Te respectively.
Of these C seems to be evidently the MS. referred to as D in the following paragraph from the Preface to the Kumârapâlacharita ( B. S. S. No. LX), which I quote here---
“The third MS. D, has lost the first leaf, and a few lines seem to be left out by the copyist at the end of the last leaf; so it is not possible to find out when and where it was got copied. This MS. forms a part of the whole consisting of 473 leaves. The first 387 leaves contain, with the Vụitti or Commentary, the Sanskrita Dvyâs'raya Kâvya which illustrates the Sanskrit Grammar; and the remaining leaves from 389 to 473, contain the Prakṣita portion of the Dvyâs'raya Kâvya with the Vșitti on it. The leaves measu_e 10" by 42" and contain 17 lines on each side.”
The MS. D (No. 404 of 1879-80 Deccan College Library) contains only the first 13 Cantos and a part of the 14th Canto, ( extending to the 35th verse only) of the original Kâyya and its commentary. It has 293 leaves, with about 14 lines per page and about 54 letters per line. It is written in the usual Jain fashion, with a blank square in the centre of every page.
The MS. E ( No. 406 of 1879-80 of the Deccan College Library ) is a mere fragment containing only three Cantos i. C. 7, 8 and 9. It has 39 leaves ( with 8 leaves missing ), with 20 lines per page and about 62 letters per line. This MS. also has a blank square in the centre of every page. It
