The Valmiki Ramayana
from literary point of view.
in the present edition of the Ramayana, but its inclusion in the Bhusana proves that it was an important commentary.
The fourth commentary which goes by the name of Tanisloki was composed by Ahobalācārya. This contains the translation of the Rámāyana and is available on whole of the works. In the beginning of the commentary we are told that the Slokas of the Ramayana which were explained by the commentators of the Upanişads in Dravida language, are being explained in the divine language i.e. Sanskrit. Hence Ahobala's explanations follow those which are given in the Dravida literature. It also says that the explanations which were given by Ramanuja and Govinda raja are not given in this Commentary. The commentary is very explanatory and reveals the correct meaning of the epic. It is worth studying
These four commentaries are supplemented with notes from Munibhävaprakásika and Satyatirthiya commentaries. Obviously these commentaries donot cover the whole of the work. But they are helpful in the understanding of the Rāmāyana. In addition to these commentaries, a map of Rāmāyaṇa-age is being also given for the convenience of the readers to locate places mentioned in the great epic.
