(ii) Pramādācarita (Purposeless mischief)-Thoughtless
activities like aimlessly digging the ground, obstructing the wind, and igniting fire are purposeless harmful activities.26 While walking to strike a standing animal with a stick is a foolish purposeless harmful activity. One should consciously avoid this type of activities. It prohibits eating meat for relish and bodily growth, which is a purposeless harmful activity. It is also a form of intentional violence (sankalpi hiṁsā), which a householder should avoid completely, and at all cost. Hiṁsā-pradāna (Felicitation of destruction)-To furnish means of destructions-weapons, fire, poison to another person without knowing whether the person is under the influence of anger or not. This means that if a man gives a knife to sharpen a pencil and fire to cook food that is not a purposeless harmful activity. But to give a knife to kill or harm somebody and fire to burn some one's house or property is certainly a purposeless and harmful activity. When some body has attacked on any innocent man, to give the latter a weapon to defend himself is not a purposeless harmful activity but to give
a weapon to violent attacker is harmful activity. (iv) Pāpopadeśa (Harmful counseling)- Means instruction
in an evil trade as 'set fire to the forest in the hot season'. Pūjyapāda defines it as advice, which stimulates others to pursue harmful activities unnecessarily. 27 “If a man who has gone deep into vices (vyasanas) like gambling, consuming alcohol, meat-eating, whoring, hunting, thieving, adultery, etc. advices others to take them, then that advice is considered as unvirtuous and purposeless.
