Book - First Steps to Jainism : Part II Writer - Sancheti & Bhandari, Publisher - M. Sujanmal Ugam Kanwar, Sancheti Trust, Jodhpur. First Edition - 1994, Pages - 156, Price - Rs. 100.00
The first and fourth chapter of this book deeply analyse the signigicant problems of Karma and the Central philosophy of Jainism - Anekāntavāda. Former is devoted to the concrete, realistic physical aspect of Karma which psychophysical hamers the progress of Jivātmā and the later is concentrated on the synthesis of conflicting views and ultimately proves that the things which appear contradictory are not so in real nature but are complentary.
Three more subsidiary problems were also discussed in the book, i.e., problem of Gunasthana, five bodies and five Samvāys. What is most important aspect of the book is its five appendices which elaborately deal the Doctrine of Karma, Modern Physics and Syādvāda, Jaina dialectic of Syadvāda in relation to probability and system of prediction and Anekāntavāda.
I would like to add further that the certain terms have diacritical marki while the same are missing in other terms. Not only this but in using diacritica marks a sound principle has not been adopted, e.g., on page II (a) and (b) does not have any affinity with (c) & (d); (1) with (e) and h.
However, the book has opened new vistas to enlightened readers, scholars as well. It will be very useful to the common readers also. The lučid style and simplicity of language attracts our attention most. I must congratulate the writer for such splendid endevour..
