Silpasastri Nardadasankar Muljibhai has done well in bringing out the Silparatnakara which is sure to prove highly useful for reference. I have gone through it iind can say that it is carefully written and is an authentic work. The old Indian Architecture is being neglected nowadays and is giving way to Saracenic and European styles. Mr. Narmadasankar's Silparatnakara contains numerous authentic illustrations. They will certainly be of help in the study and understanding of that ancient- or rather mediaeralstyle of Indian Architecture in which the magnificent buildings, particularly temples, of Gujarat and Kathiawad were constructed. It would have been more advantageous had the learned Silpasastri discussed the history of architecture in India and added a critical introduction to his Silparatnakara. All the same Mr. Narmadasankar deserves every encouragement and I recommend ris book to lovers of Indian Architecture. Such useful works should find rooni in important libraries where they can be easily consulted by the general public.

(ઉપરના મૂળ અંગ્રેજી અભિપ્રાયનું ગુજરાતી ભાષાતર ) શિલ્પશાસ્ત્રી નર્મદાશંકર મૂળજીભાઇએ જ્ઞાનની દૃષ્ટિએ ચેકસ અતિ ઉપયોગી થઈ પડે એ “શિલ્પ રત્નાકર” ગ્રંથ બહાર પાડી એક ભારે રાષ્ટ્રિીય સેવા બજાવી છે. હું તે આદ્યન્ત જોઈ ગયો છું. એટલે હું ખાત્રીથી કહી શકું છું કે આ લખાણ બહુજ સંભાળપૂર્વક થયું હોઈ એ પુસતક એક પ્રમાણ ગ્રંથ છે. અત્યારે પ્રાચીન હિન્દી સ્થાપત્યની ઉપેક્ષા થઇ રહી છે એટલું જ નહિ પણ વિશેષમાં એ કલા ઇસ્લામી ઢબ અને યુરોપીય પદ્ધતિઓ પ્રતિ ઢળતી જાય છે. પરિણામે વિદેશી સ્થાપત્યને અગ્ર સ્થાન મળતું જાય છે. શ્રીયુત્ નર્મદાશંકરના શિલ્ય રત્નાકરમાં શિલ્પના નમુનાનાં અસંખ્ય ચિત્રો છે. તેનાથી જૂનાં ભવ્ય મકાને, ખાસ કરીને ગુજરાત અને કાઠીઆવાડનાં દેવાલયની પ્રાચીન અથવા મધ્યમ યુગની સ્થાપત્ય કલા અને પદ્ધતિને સમજપૂર્વક અભ્યાસ કરવાનું સરળ થઈ પડશે, આ વિદ્વાન શિલ્પશાસ્ત્રીએ હિન્દી સ્થાપત્યનો ઇતિહાસ આપી
