________________ अथ रसज्ञानम् The knowledge of taste (rasa) of food affecting the movement of pulse : मधुरे बर्हिगमना तिक्ते स्याद् भूलतागतिः ।। अम्ले कोष्णा प्लवगतिः कटुके भृङ्गसन्निभा ।। V.25 ।। The movement of the pulse is like that of a peacock in the case of taking sweet stuff; like that of an earth worm in taking a bitter-tasting article; like that of a frog, slightly hot, in taking acidic stuff; like that of a Bhrnga (a kind of bird, phinga) in taking sour thing. (V. 25) कषाये कठिना म्लाना लवणे सरला द्रता । एवं द्वित्रिचर्तर्योगे नानाधर्मवती धरा || V.26 ।। There becomes a hard, and feeble pulse in the case of taking astringent and speedy pulse in taking saltish article. Thus the pulse makes different move ments, if two, three or four kinds of tasting-stuff are taken (V. 26) द्रवेऽतिकठिना नाड़ी कोमला कठिनाशने । द्रवद्रव्यस्य काठिन्ये कोमला कठिनापि च । क्षुद्र पृथग् ग्रन्थिलेव पुष्टे पुष्टैव जायते ।। V.27 ।। The pulse becomes very hard in taking flowing (liquid) stuff and soft in taking a hard substance, it (1) In Nadivijnanam this word "Dhara" is not found, there is mention of Sira, so Dhara and Sira carry the same meaning.
