________________ NAGARAJAIAH: VIKRAMĀDITYA VI AND JAINISM Early Period 6.1 Vikramaditya was officially crowned as the emperor of Calukya kingdom in the beginning of C.E. 1076.18 To commemorate the unique and propitious event of the coronation ceremony of TribhuvamamallaPermmäḍi-Vikramaditya, as the emperor of Calukya empire, perggade Śridharavarmadeva and perggade Kirtivarmadeva, two of the subordinates renovated and restored the Antara-basadi, a Jaina temple at Cilakur. 19 This shows how jubilent the Jaina community was on the succession of Vikki to the throne. Antara-Vasadi of Cilakūru attached to Indra-Jinālaya, with its presiding god being AtisayaPārsvadeva, was a temple of Rāṣṭrakūṭa period, because grants of lands were made over to this Antara-Vasadi in A.D. 1012, when Vikramaditya-V was ruling.20 6.2 When Tribhuvanamalladeva's kingdom was extending on all sides, dweller at his lotus feet, entitled to the band of five chief instruments, mahāmaṇḍaleśvara Nanni-Santara alias Govindaradeva was ruling Santalige-Thousand under the shadow of his sole umbrella (eka-chatra-chāye). He was more popular as Goggiga, a shortened nomen of his first name Govindara. He had a number of birudas including chief lord of northern Madhura, boon-lord of PattiPombuccapura, ornament of the great Ugra-vamsa by the boon obtained from the goddess Padmavatidevi.21 6.3 Govindaradeva, who had Nanni-Santara as his surname, having completed the tūlāpuruşa mahā-dāna and hiranya-garbha, highest gifts, having the monkey-flag and the lion-crest, a worshipper of the feet of Jina, the Santara-sun mahāmaṇdaleśvara was a devout Jaina Nanni-Santaradeva, for the repairs of the basadi, for the food of the band of ṛṣis and for the worship, gave villages (specified). 17 6.4 Adorned with the gems of good qualities, Caṭṭaladevi, crownqueen of Kaduvetți, a ruler of Tondenaḍ-Forty Eight Thousand and lord of Kanci, felt like erecting a memorial for the merit of her departed parents, younger sister and brother. She undertook the task of Pañcavasadi-five basadis [in Kannada basadi and basti (from Sk. vasati means a Jaina temple].
