________________ NAGARAJAIAH : VIKRAMADITYA VI AND JAINISM 25 11.2 The perggade Nokkayya had acquired such great fame that the king granted him the royal insignia of two horns, a canopy, cāmaras, big drums, a unique umbrella called the Meghadambara and thus made his shine like a mine of glory.53 The Vikrama Sāntara-II, who had Oddūga alias Oùdamarasa as his first name (1077-87) mahāmandalesvara of Santalige-Thousand nād, made over tax-free revenue of certain villages in Kallūr-nād and Hombuja-nād of Sāntalige-1000 division, to the worship and for feeding the group of Jaina-saints of Pañca-basadi in the Hombuja town, also the residence of Santara kings.54 The gift was entrusted after washing the feet, to AjitasenaPanditadeva who had the surname of Vädibhasimha.55 12.1 As mentioned earlier, in para numbers 10.4 and 10.5, Ararasibidu olim Vikramapura (Bij dt, Hungund t) was an established Jaina settlement from an early period of Rāştrakūtas where there were more than two basadis and the one with the cognomen of Gunadabedangi-Jinālaya was much known to the public. The temple of Arhat was again accorded grants in 1087.56 12.2 While the victorious reign of the prosperous Tribhuvanamalladeva, the supreme king of great kings, the most venerable, the glory of the family of Satyāśraya, the ornament of the Cālukyas, was flourishing with perpetual increase, king Kārtavirya, the fortunate mahāmandalesvara, the feudatory was governing the Kuhundi-3000, with its residence at Saundatti. 57 King Kāļasena of the Ratta family had built a temple of Jinendra at that place; and to that shrine king Sena-II, who was possessed of a mighty army, gave in his devotion 12 nivartanas of land as a grant to be respected by all. 12.3 Twenty-one of the years that bear the name of the era of the brave Vikrama having elapsed, in saka 1019 (C.E. 1087), the brave Permmādideva, the Cālukya emperor, gave as a grant to be respected by all, 12 nivartanas of land in his own custody (sivata) in Kāreyabāgu village to the temple of Vira-Permmāờideva-Jinālaya, the Jinālaya of 53. ibid., pp. 20-21. 54.
